From The Editor:

If it were November, I could say how grateful I am for all of our readers and contributors. If it were December, I could thank all of our contributors for their talented gifts. If it were January, I could tell you my resolutions for SFC and the New Year. If it were February, I could tell you how much I love all of you for making SFC so wonderful. If it were March, I could look for a leprechaun and a pot of gold to share with you. If it were April, I could tell you how exciting it is to be starting the second year of SFC. But, now it’s May—hooray! It’s time for all of us to celebrate our mothers and the beauty of nature.

In this issue, you will learn all about May Day, its traditions, and the May Pole. We’ll celebrate Mother’s Day. We’ll learn how to make a card and a gift for Mom. You can even read some of our stories and articles to Mom, solve a puzzle, or do the coloring page together.

My mom was my biggest cheerleader when it came to my writing. She encouraged me all the time to write and to make a difference in this world. Through SFC, I feel I am making a difference in the World of Ink. Maybe my blue jay and cranky turtle gave you a smile. Maybe you liked a craft or a recipe I gave you. Maybe my article on what to do in a tornado was helpful to you. Maybe one of my silly poems made you smile or my puzzle poem made you think.

I thank my dear mother, Phyllis Jacobson, for introducing me to the wonderful World of Ink when I was very young and for encouraging me to be the very best that I could be. She made a big difference in my life. Kudos to moms everywhere—continue making that crucial difference in the lives of your children!

With warm wishes for a May full of love, flowers, lollipops and sunshine,

Gayle Jacobson-Huset, Assistant Editor

"Shortening the Gap," has been accepted for publication by A Long Story Short in the April 2008 issue

"The Worthy Writer's Conference," has been accepted for publication by Once Upon A Time Magazine for future publication.

"How to Get and Stay Organized for Your Blooming Writing Career," has been accepted for publication by ICL's Rx for Writers and will appear online in May 2008 Donna, this is terrific, awesome news!  Congratulations!  You are definitely on a roll!  Keep up the great work! WAHOOOOO!

Author Jennifer Blessing has an article online at Kid Mag Writer's "IN MY OFFICE". The title of her piece is:  "What's In Your Office?" What a funny article, Jennifer! Congratulations and WAHOOOO to you!

Author Billy Burgess has an article pending publication at Once Upon A Time Magazine entitled, "You Never Forget Your First Rejection". His article entitled: "Where is Scrooge McDuck Hiding at?" will be appearing in the June 2008 SFC's Writer's Newsletter. He will also have two book reviews appearing online at SFC in July 08. Even though this GOOD NEWS File is for good news for our writers' successes OUTSIDE of SFC, Billy is brand new, just starting out, and he is off to a terrific start! Congratulations, Billy! Good job!  Wahoooo! You are a great example of: Persistence DOES pay off!

Author Bobbi Ireland recently had an article published in Relate Magazine. Not only did they publish Bobbi's article, but they also put it on the front cover!  Then, it was picked up by the local newspaper, which did an article on Bobbi!  Here is the link if you'd like to read the article:

 http://www.robdailynews.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=4374

Congratulations, Bobbi!  This is totally awesome!  What a wonderful experience for you to have after such a tragedy. YOU GO GIRL! WAHOOOO!

Author Donna Boock – In addition to Donna's story, "Mother's Day" and a recipe for "Oven Baked French Toast" that are appearing in the May issue of SFC, Donna was very busy having a Mother's Day of her own!

Her little bundle of joy, Matthew Anderson, arrived on April 10th at exactly 7 lbs. Matthew has a big sister at home who's helping Mommy take care of him.  Congratulations to the Boock Family! Way to go, Donna! WAHOOOOOOOOOOO!

Author Evelyn B. Christensen had an article published in Kid Mag Writer's April "In The Beginning" section entitled:  "The Big Acceptance." What a wonderful article, Evelyn!  Made me feel good right down to my tippy-toes!  Good Job! WAHOOOOO! I recommend everyone that writes for children's magazines to read this very inspiring article.

Author Laura Purdie Salas, who is SFC's Featured Guest for May, also has an article in Kid Mag Writers' April section, "Meter Readers", entitled: "Dabbling In Diamantes". I didn't even KNOW there was a poetry format like this – it is totally awesome! Thanks for sharing, Laura!

Author Angela Frazier's debut YA novel entitled "Everlasting", was just sold at auction to Scholastic Press for a two-book deal, due for summer 2010 release. This is a romantic historical adventure.
